There has been a saying of four famous ancient cities of “Lijiang in South, Pingyao in North, Xixian in East, and Langzhong in West” since the ancient China.
Located on the northeast part of Sichuan Province and middle and upper reaches of Jialingjiang River, the ancient city of Langzhong was rewarded the title of “national famous historical and cultural city” by the State Council in 1986 and “China’s excellent tourist city” by the state in 2004. It is the tourist destination of Chinese fengshui culture as well as the leading power of the fifth quality tour route of Sichuan Province. As the ancient city preserved best in China until now, it covers two square kilometers as its core area with a hundred odd ancient streets and lanes as well as a hundred odd ancient courtyards and more than twenty scenic spots. The architectural style of the ancient city has remained the pattern of the Tang and Song Dynasties as well as the features of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Therefore, it is praised by experts as the “object treasure of Chinese folk architecture”. The mountains are surrounded the city from four sides and the rivers are from three dimensions. The mountain, river, and city are combining together as a whole, winning a fame of “Langyuan Fairyland” and “Number One Scenery of Jialingjiang River”. During a history of more than 2300 years, lots of places of interest and historical sites have remained in the ancient city, such as the Temple of Marquis Huan of Han (Zhang Fei Temple) with an eternal fame, Sichuan Examination Hall of the Qing Dynasty which is the biggest and preserved best in China, Huaguang Tower with the name of “Number One Tower of Langzhong”, Baba Masjid which is worshipped by Moslem with the title of “Oriental Mekka”, the only folk fengshui culture museum at present in China, folk houses and ancient courtyards with various characteristics, and so on.
In the future five-year program, the municipal Party committee and municipal government of Langzhong have put forward the aim of “building Langzhong into the most attractive tourist city in the western China”. We 860,000 Langzhong people welcome warmheartedly the visitor, scholars and leaders home and abroad to Langzhong for visit and investigation.
