Located on the northern part of the Sichuan Basin and the middle reaches of Jialingjiang River, Langzhong is close to Yilong and Bazhong Counties in the east, Nubu County in the south, Jiange in the west and Cangxi in the north. With a distance of 300 kilometers away from the capital of Sichuan Province Chengdu city, Langzhong has jurisdiction over 3 subdistrict offices and 70 countries and towns with an area of 1878 k㎡ and the cultivated area of 640,000-odd mu. It has a population of 860000, of which 200,000 in city. People with various nationalities are living in the city, such as Han, Hui, Mongol, Manchu, Miao, Yi, Zhuang, Dong, Shui, Li, Buyi, Gaoshan, Naxi, etc. The Han People occupy 99% of the total.
There are two main mountain ranges in Langzhong. The eastern part of Jialingjiang River belongs to Bashan Mountain Range while the western part is Jianmen Mountain Range. The peak lies in Ma’an Mountain of Longquan Town with the altitude of 888.8 meters while the bottom point is the section of Jialingjiang River located on Mao’er Well of Zhuzhen County in the bottom of the south city, with the altitude of 328 meters.
Langzhong is the region with semitropical humid monsoon climate with distinct four seasons and an average temperature of 17℃ in a year. The difference in temperature among months and years is small. There are usually frostless 290 days in a year and the average rainfall in a year is 1033.8 millimeters.
There are “one big river and four small rivers” in Langzhong. Jialingjiang River passes through the city from north to south. Donghe River and Gouxi River merge into Jialingjiang River from east while Xihe River and Baixi River from west. There are 169 brooks and river branches all over the city together with these five rivers to form a dendriform water net. Therefore, the water resource in Langzhong is very abundant.
Besides, the natural resources in Langzhong are so rich. Grain crops mainly include paddy, wheat, corn, pea, potato, etc. And industrial crops rely mostly on cotton, cole, tung, mulberry, medicinal materials, and so on. The breeding of fowls is also common, such as pig, cattle, sheep, chicken, duck, goose, fish, etc. Meanwhile, many products have a ready market in foreign countries, such as medicinal materials, oranges, pears, and so on.
